Did you know Goddess Ascending is a reverse harem romance? For anyone who didn't know, and anyone scratching their heads, trying to figure out what reverse harem actually means, here's a fun Q&A to inform:
q: What's Reverse Harem? (better known as "rh")
a: It's a story where the heroine has multiple love interests and decides, hey, why choose?! Some rh books are more about sexytime with a group "couple" but most, including Goddess Ascending, are about the heroine's journey to save the world while ALSO falling deeply in true love--with more than one person.
So, if you love the "true love" trope, don't worry, I've got you covered!
q: Did you set out to write reverse harem?
a: Actually, no. My first rh read was Curse of the Gods by Jaymin Eve and Jane Washington. So good! But even though I loved it, I didn't mean to write one. It was an accident. I know that sounds weird or lame but it's true. I meant to write Elidi and Kol but then I met Grim and Helix and I wasn't about to force Elidi to choose when I couldn't either. So, here we are. You tell me what was a girl to do.
q: Will you write more reverse harem?
a: Not as a rule going forward, no, but... I am co-writing a duology (that's a 2-book series) with Karpov Kinrade. It's called Mad Girl and it releases March 10. It's about a girl who is tossed into an asylum for being unstable. Not everything is as it seems, though, and her first friends are twin brothers who I DAMN SURE COULD NEVER HAVE CHOSEN BETWEEN. And luckily, you won't have to either.
q: do you have something against monogamy now?
a: True love between two people is my jam! That "fated" moment where they both realize they're "the one" is just too sappy for me to walk away from forever. But I enjoy telling all sorts of stories and both Mad Girl and Goddess Ascending happened to be stories where the heroine having multiple love interests actually complemented the story and world. It's not gratuitous. It's what fits best for the character I've written. (I also don't judge what anyone else finds most satisfying in their own lives or their fictional preferences.)
If you haven't tried Goddess Ascending, I CHALLENGE YOU TO A DUEL! JK. But seriously. Give it a read and see what you think. You never know. It might be your new favorite kind of romance!
